Extra Help for Prescription Drug Costs
People with limited incomes or resources may qualify for Extra Help to pay for their prescription drug costs. If you qualify, Medicare could a portion of your drug costs including monthly prescription drug premiums, annual deductibles, and coinsurance. Additionally, those who qualify will not be subject to the coverage gap or a late enrollment penalty.

- Social Security Office: (800) 772-1213, 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. TTY users, call (800) 325-0778
- Your state Medi-Cal/Medicaid office.

If your application is approved, you are required to enroll into a Medicare
prescription drug plan. If you do not select a plan, the Centers for Medicare
& Medicaid Services will select a plan for you. The sooner you join
a plan, the sooner you begin receiving benefits.
If Social Security believes you do not qualify for Extra Help, you will
receive a Pre-decisional notice. After receiving the notice, you have
will have 10 days to visit your local Social Security office or contact
them at 1-800-772-1213 to provide additional information.
