Medicare STAR Rating

In an effort to improve the quality of care for Medicare Beneficiaries, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) developed a 5-star rating system for Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans.

Each year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rate the quality of Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans using various measures. The rating scale ranges between 1 and 5 (5 being the highest) and is based on measurements of the member experience, prescription drug services, and quality of care the plan delivers. New plan quality ratings come out each October and apply to the next calendar year (for example, plan ratings for 2020 will be available in October 2019).
